Nearly 100 banking jobs coming to Southern Mississippi

Regions Bank will build a new operations facility in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, a move that will bring 90 new jobs to the area, a recent press released announced.

The 75,000-square-foot facility will be the result of a $23 million capital investment by Regions and will house employees that currently work in several downtown offices. The new location will house up to 420 employees.

Currently, Regions Bank has 320 employees in Hattiesburg, which is located less than 100 miles from Jackson.

"Hattiesburg and the Pine Belt Region have celebrated significant economic development wins in recent years. Regions' investment in this new facility and commitment to adding 90 new jobs ... will benefit the local community for many years to come," said Gov. Phil Bryant.

Regions has $125 billion assets and maintains 1,600 banking offices across the South and Midwest U.S., according to the company's website.

Construction of the new Hattiesburg facility is anticipated to start in the fourth quarter of 2017. It provides a suite of services to consumer and commercial customers, including wealth management and insurance products. The company will continue to operate a branch downtown.

"Regions has served local customers from downtown for many years, and that is not going to change," said South Mississippi President for Regions Bank Greg Garraway, according to the press release. "The plans we are announcing today will help support the continued strength and vitality of this community and the surrounding area for many years to come."
