Adding 38,100 jobs to the economy in February, the healthcare sector is set to become the largest industry in the nation.
Since last year, the healthcare field has added more than 480,000 jobs, according to Time magazine. Reporting on analysis from Dan Diamond of Politico, Time indicated that these numbers set the industry on track to become the biggest job sector in the country within the next three years.
According to the February jobs report - which was better than predicted - a total of 242,000 jobs were added to the economy and the unemployment rate remained just below 5 percent. The breakdown for jobs within the industry included the addition of 7,100 home healthcare jobs, 7,500 employees at physicians' offices and 10,600 hospital positions.
The report indicated that the surge in jobs last month confirmed that healthcare continues to remain one of the most steady and tenacious jobs markets in terms of expansion.
Hospitals alone have added 180,000 positions in the past year, reported U.S. News & World Report. In fact, the annual report on the top jobs of 2016 from the source listed nine out of the top 10 positions as in the healthcare sector. Anesthesiologists, physician assistants and nurse practitioners were among the nine listed.
