Swiss engineering firm invests in new Montreal headquarters

Last month, Swiss engineering firm ABB announced Montreal, Canada, as its chosen location for a new North American headquarters, reported Robotics and Automation News.

By investing $90 million, ABB will help Canadians push forward the Innovation Agenda of their government, which plans to make Canada a global leader - and center - for innovation and technology, noted the source.

"With its excellent universities and associated ecosystem, Canada provides all the right ingredients for research and development needed to develop global technology platforms," said ABB president and CEO Ulrich Spiesshofer, according to Business Facilities magazine. "There are huge opportunities in making transportation systems smarter and greener. At ABB, we want to run the world without consuming the Earth."

The new research and development centre will support 700 jobs as employees work toward new solutions for electric vehicles. There are currently over 4,500 Canadians employed by ABB in 50 locations across the country.
