Technology industry hits record number of workers

Workers in the technology industry are now employed at the highest numbers ever seen, and hiring across the industry is poised to continue its growth.

Department of Labor estimates report American companies hired 195,000 workers overall in the month of June, and when between 18,000 and 22,000 technical workers are part of that tally, about 10 percent of all jobs added last month were in the sector, according to the Silicon Valley Business Journal.

These latest numbers raise the total amount of Americans working in the tech industry to 4.47 million, a 5.7 percent increase in the past year and the highest number of workers the industry has ever seen.

Overall hiring around the country is expected to continue to increase in various aspects of technology. Sixteen percent of new hires overall are predicted to be working on mobile technology, according to a CareerBuilder survey, while employees working on new Internet-stored cloud-based data services are expected to represent another 15 percent.

Social media related jobs were predicted to reach 13 percent of all hires, with another 12 percent tied to analyzing companies' data collections and 9 percent expected to help bolster cyber security measures.
